Fuerteventura’s Cabildo Moves Forward with Casa del Inglés Initiative
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is making strides in its participatory process to revitalise the Casa del Inglés. This initiative, led by the Cultural Heritage department, aims to create a strategic proposal for future uses of this Cultural Heritage asset located in La Oliva.
On Friday, the island corporation presented the suggestions gathered so far through this dialogue process, which involves social, cultural, economic, and institutional stakeholders. The meeting, held at the Raíz del Pueblo Cultural Centre, also welcomed fresh contributions from community members, fostering consensus on the future of this iconic building.
The Cultural Heritage department launched this process in March, following the completion of the first phase of a major restoration project for the building. As part of the initiative, collaborative workshops and dialogue sessions have taken place. “This has helped us move towards a unified proposal for the future of this emblematic property,” said Rayco León, the Cultural Heritage Councillor, during the event, also attended by David Fajardo, the Tourism and Environment Councillor.
José Álamo, a researcher and social worker from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is coordinating the project through the Fundación Canaria Universitaria de Las Palmas (FULP).
