Fuerteventura and Cantabria Explore Tourism Collaboration
Fuerteventura and Cantabria are looking to strengthen tourism ties, including the potential for a regular flight connection between Santander and Fuerteventura. This development follows a meeting today in Santander between the Fuerteventura Tourist Board and Cantabria’s Department of Tourism.
The meeting, led by Cantabria’s Tourism Minister Luis Martínez Abad and Fuerteventura’s Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa, along with the board’s managing director Moisés Jorge, aimed to establish a collaborative framework.
Both regions recognised existing platforms, such as the AENA-Turespaña air connectivity forums and Routes Europe fair, as suitable venues to discuss flight connections with airlines.
“Marlene Figueroa highlighted that ‘Cantabria and Fuerteventura are two complementary destinations. This partnership allows us to find ways for travellers in each region to explore the other. Working together on connectivity is essential,’” she noted.
Figueroa also remarked that “a direct route between Santander and Fuerteventura would benefit both destinations, making it a sensible topic for the connectivity forums, backed by both councils.”
Today’s meeting lays the groundwork for ongoing collaboration aimed at enhancing joint marketing efforts and connectivity between the two regions.
