Arrecife was buzzing with activity on Saturday as it hosted the 32nd edition of the Triatlón RCNA – Ciudad de Arrecife 2026. Athletes of all ages participated, showcasing not only high-level competition but also a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day. Organised by the Arrecife City Council in conjunction with the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation (FECANTRI), the event crowned Saúl Escarabajal and Mia Leadbeater as the overall winners.
This year’s event marked a significant milestone, being the first time the Lanzarote Insular Championship was integrated into a triathlon, reinforcing the event’s importance in the local sporting calendar.
The day’s activities kicked off at 10:00 AM with registrations, followed by the Sprint category starting at 11:00 AM. Initially challenged by windy conditions, the weather improved, providing ideal conditions for the athletes.
In the men’s race, local athlete Saúl Escarabajal took first place, finishing in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 40 seconds, nearly two minutes ahead of second-placed Chamo Díaz. Cristian Martín came in third, crossing the line five minutes after Escarabajal.
For the women, Mia Leadbeater clinched victory with a time of 1:15:14, narrowly beating Carmen Falcón, who finished just 14 seconds behind. Sabrina Montes rounded out the women’s podium with a time of 1:24:18.
Team participation was also a highlight, with the Trilaguna team finishing first in 1:28:19. In addition to the overall standings, points from the Lanzarote Insular Championship were awarded, with Escarabajal and Díaz taking the top two spots in the men’s category, while Leadbeater led the women’s ranking, followed by Carolina Basanta and Idaira Rodríguez.
The day continued with the Triatlón Supersprint, part of the Canary Islands Championship, aimed at younger competitors. In the boys’ under-12 category, Nassim Ayad Ahl Belkacem won, followed closely by his brother Wassim. In the girls’ category, María Marcos Soraluce emerged victorious.
The cadet and youth races also saw thrilling contests, with Jorge Prados and Ainhoa Domínguez topping the cadet charts, and Ayoub Aryoubi and Simonetta Valido winning in the youth categories.
The day concluded with a duathlon for the youngest participants, who enjoyed their time before receiving medals at the finish line.
This event further cements Arrecife’s reputation as a premier venue for major sports gatherings, blending competition, youth involvement, and the new Insular Championship into a single day filled with camaraderie and sportsmanship.
