A young Presa Canario from Lanzarote has made history at the national and international dog shows in Jaén this weekend, claiming the title of Young Champion of Spain 2026. Named Rofe de Guadaneth, this impressive dog achieved significant acclaim during his first outing outside the Canary Islands.
Owned by Azarías and Laureano Álvarez, Rofe excelled at the event, achieving five major accolades, including the title of Young Champion of Spain and two certificates for the Young Spanish Championship. He also received the CACIB-J, an international beauty qualification, as well as being named Oleum Winner and Latin Winner for 2026.
Rofe not only stood out in his category but also competed against top young dogs from various breeds, leaving a remarkable impression on his mainland debut. The award ceremony was particularly emotional when Azarías Álvarez presented Rofe in the crucial moment for the championship, highlighting their shared journey and commitment to excellence in breeding.
Rofe is the son of Covadonga de Fencing Dogs, a celebrated multi-champion and a key figure in the breed’s history, representing Lanzarote on prestigious global platforms. His success continues a legacy of hard work and dedication to the Presa Canario breed, a symbol of the island’s cultural identity.
The triumph of Rofe is not just about trophies; it recognises decades of effort by breeders on Lanzarote who focus on responsible breeding and preservation of this distinctive breed. The achievement has brought immense joy to the Álvarez family, as they see a new generation carry forward the success of past champions.
With this impressive start to his career, Rofe de Guadaneth has already made a lasting mark, showcasing that talent knows no borders. He stands as a proud representative of Lanzarote, a small island with a rich heritage of canine champions.
