The Fuerteventura Tourist Board is set to participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) in London from November 3 to 5, showcasing a direct route from London Heathrow for the first time. The board has attended this event for over 30 years, representing the Canary Islands alongside local municipalities and tourism businesses.
With a busy agenda of meetings with tour operators and airlines, the focus will be on the winter 2026/27 travel season, which begins on November 1. There will be 442,672 regular flight seats available from the UK, making it Fuerteventura’s largest source market.
A highlight for this winter is the new British Airways service between London Heathrow and Fuerteventura, launching on December 13 with two weekly flights. This connection marks the island’s first link to Heathrow, a key European airport hub.
Marlene Figueroa, the island’s Tourism Councillor and Vice President of the Tourist Board, emphasised the importance of their presence at the WTM, stating it reflects the significance of the British market to Fuerteventura. She noted that the 442,000 flight seats for this winter demonstrate the strength of the relationship, and the new Heathrow route signifies a strategic investment in this market.
The meetings at the WTM will help the board engage with key players in the British market and discuss prospects for the upcoming winter season.
