Landmark Event for Women Leaders in the Canary Islands
On July 23, the Fuerteventura Congress Palace will host a historic gathering, bringing together the six women who have served as presidents of the island councils across the Canary Islands. This unprecedented event aims to reflect on female leadership, public service, and the journey towards greater equality in institutional representation.
Titled “The 6 Amazing Women,” the roundtable is a significant milestone for Fuerteventura and the wider Canary Islands, showcasing the achievements of women who have led the island governments in recent years. The meeting not only acknowledges their contributions but also highlights women’s ability to effect change through public responsibility.
Participants include M. Eugenia Márquez Rodríguez (former president of Gran Canaria), Inés Rojas de León (former president of Lanzarote), Guadalupe González Taño (former president of La Palma), Belén Allende Riera (former president of El Hierro), Rosa Dávila Mamely (current president of Tenerife), and Dolores Alicia García Martínez (current president of Fuerteventura). The discussion will be moderated by Nardy Barrios Curbelo, a lawyer and president of Charter 100 Canarias.
The event will also mark the launch of Charter 100 Fuerteventura, led by Clara Peña, which aims to facilitate public discussions on female leadership. This initiative is part of Charter 100 Canarias, an association that focuses on promoting women’s leadership and creating spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration.
Since its establishment on March 8, 2015, Charter 100 Canarias has worked to advance gender equality by supporting professional development, entrepreneurship, and the consolidation of female leadership. Its mission is to become a key organisation for driving real change in women’s lives through impactful projects.
With “The 6 Amazing Women,” Charter 100 Canarias underscores its commitment to spotlighting a vital chapter in the political history of the archipelago, encouraging future generations to seek out role models in decision-making roles.
The event will take place at 6:00 PM in the Symphonic Hall of the Fuerteventura Congress Palace, aiming to become a recognised platform for celebrating female leadership in the Canary Islands.
