Pájara to Host 38th World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship
The town of Pájara has announced the 38th World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship, along with La Carpa, set to take place from 16 July to 1 August at La Barca de Sotavento beach in Jandía. This event positions the municipality as a key tourist and cultural destination globally.
Present at the launch were Pájara’s Mayor Alejandro Jorge, Tourism Councillor Maria Clementina Da Silva, Sports Councillor José Benito Alonso, Insular Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa, DN7 Music representative Fran Navarro, and top athletes Dieter van der Eyken and the Chairmen of the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA).
Mayor Jorge highlighted the competition’s significance, stating it would serve as an economic driver for local businesses, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and other tourism services.
Maria Clementina Da Silva noted the positive impact on the local tourism sector, attracting thousands of visitors for a day of sports and leisure suitable for all ages. She emphasised Pájara’s stunning beaches as an ideal backdrop for such events.
Marlene Figueroa remarked that this year’s championship reinforces the island’s prominence in hosting these competitions.
Councillor José Benito Alonso invited all windsurfing and wingfoiling enthusiasts, along with visitors to La Carpa, to enjoy the combination of sporting and recreational activities over the 21-day event. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the event possible.
PWA representatives expressed their enthusiasm about the events.
The championship will include a designated safety point to ensure a secure and incident-free environment. During this period, La Carpa will feature a cultural space for 4,500 people, showcasing performances from prominent artists such as Ñengo Flow and Omega, as well as events like Bresh and Noche Blanca.
Both the World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship and La Carpa have become vital for the local economy, contributing significantly to the area’s tourism.
