Candelaria Assures Public After Brown Stains Appear on Local Beaches
The local council in Candelaria has confirmed that no incidents or sewage discharges occurred over the weekend, despite brown stains spotted along its coastline and in Tabaiba. Testing of the water on Monday revealed normal parameters, putting residents’ concerns at ease.
During the weekend, several beaches, including La Hornilla, Las Caletillas, and Bajo la Cuesta, exhibited noticeable brown stains and white foam, raising questions among sunbathers regarding their origin. Similar discoloration was also reported in Tabaiba.
Public Health authorities took samples of the water early Monday, checking levels of E. coli and Enterococcus, which have previously led to beach closures. Results showed these levels were normal, meaning no closures were necessary.
Aqualia, the company responsible for water and sanitation management in the area, also reported no issues within the sanitation network that could have caused the stains.
