Puerto de la Cruz Prepares for July Festivities
Puerto de la Cruz is gearing up for its major July celebrations, honouring the Gran Poder de Dios, the Virgen del Carmen, and San Telmo. These figures take centre stage on this year’s festival poster.
The festivities kick off this Friday with the opening speech led by local brotherhoods and will run until the end of the month, culminating in a grand concert at the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex on July 31.
A notable addition this year is the merging of the traditional Canary dinner with the Magos’ dance on the pier on Saturday, July 11.
The previous night will feature the Noche de Tributos, showcasing the Estrellas de Buena Vista tribute band, along with performances honouring Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón and Frankie Ruiz.
One of the highlights, the procession for the Virgen del Carmen, which attracts thousands, will take place on Tuesday, July 14. This will be preceded by a procession to San Telmo on July 4, and daytime and nighttime processions for the Gran Poder on July 12 and 13, respectively.
Councilman Javier González, along with Mayor Leopoldo Afonso and other local officials, confirmed the schedule and expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making this year’s festivities memorable. The mayor highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the celebrations and the community’s identity, showcasing devotion, maritime traditions, and civic pride.
This year also sees an expanded puppet show for children in the Charco Square, featuring Gorgoritos in the early days and various other companies later in the month.
