The Casa del Vino de Tenerife in El Sauzal hosted the inaugural Tenerife Rural Products Fair over the weekend, attracting a large crowd and showcasing the island’s agro-food production to both locals and visitors.
Organised by the Cabildo de Tenerife’s Primary Sector Department and the Tenerife Rural Foundation, the event featured around twenty local producers, cooperatives, and small businesses. Its goal was to connect local producers directly with consumers.
Attendees had the chance to purchase a wide range of local products, including tropical fruits, locally sourced honeys, traditional cheeses, gofio, artisan pastries, jams, oils, mojos, and preserves. The fair also highlighted innovative offerings such as local ciders, island-roasted coffee, microalgae, and fish products.
Valentín González, the Primary Sector Councillor, praised the event’s warm reception and the sector’s commitment, stating that “this first fair is designed to become a permanent fixture on the island’s calendar, serving as a vital platform for promoting local products and recognising our producers.”
González also noted that initiatives like this help achieve key objectives, such as ensuring generational renewal, promoting environmentally valuable traditional agricultural practices, and boosting direct marketing.
