The deadline for submitting bids for Yaiza’s public tender ended on Monday, 10 August, with five companies now being evaluated for a contract to provide a new waste collection and transport service. This contract focuses on collecting domestic waste from the municipality and includes the supply, cleaning, and maintenance of waste containers. The local council proposes a ten-year contract worth approximately €36 million.
Mayor Óscar Noda emphasised that the aim of this new tender is to enhance waste collection across all local communities by improving and optimising services in line with population growth, both residential and tourist.
Councillor for Cleaning, Rubén Arca, noted that the proposals cover the collection of organic waste, residual waste, cooking oil, bulky items, electrical appliances, and garden waste. A key innovation will be the installation of mobile clean points that will rotate among the villages in Yaiza.
The successful bidder will also commit to collecting construction and demolition waste that has been abandoned in public spaces, as well as waste generated from local events like festivals and processions.
Yaiza will now proceed with the legal review of the documentation from each bidder, evaluating their technical proposals and economic offers before awarding the contract and starting the new service.
