Residents and Traders Raise Concerns Over Rubbish Bin Issues in Santa Cruz
Local traders and residents on La Rosa Street in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have voiced concerns regarding the installation of rubbish bins. According to the Barrio del Toscal de las Tribulaciones Association, the bins now fit poorly in their designated spaces, leaving openings that could encourage cockroach infestations.
Initially, the bins were placed in accordance with the street’s renovation plan. However, changes made during waste collection have reportedly misaligned them, resulting in some bins being raised and separated from the ground. Photographs provided by residents highlight the discrepancies between the original and current placements.
The complaint indicates that the new positions of the bins do not align with their intended spots, leaving gaps at the bottom and around the structures. Residents believe these openings contribute to the increase in cockroaches, though this connection requires verification by municipal cleaning and pest control services.
The presence of cockroaches raises hygiene concerns, especially since the street hosts many shops, restaurants, and is frequently used by both locals and visitors.
Residents are requesting that the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the waste collection company inspect the bin installations. They are specifically asking for the bins to be restored to their original positions or for a permanent solution that properly closes off the gaps.
In their written complaints, they stressed that “traders and residents deserve a clean, safe environment in the best possible condition.” So far, there has been no municipal response regarding the reasons for the bin relocations, the scope of the issue, or any planned actions.
La Rosa Street recently reopened to traffic following renovations that included changes to the roadway, pavements, street furniture, and infrastructure.
