Granadilla de Abona Holds Police Coordination Meeting on Gender Violence
Granadilla de Abona’s council hosted a meeting this morning of the Police Coordination Table for the VioGén Protocol, organised by the Government Sub-delegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife through the Unit for Violence Against Women.
Taking place at the town hall from 10:00 AM, attendees included representatives from the Civil Guard, the Gender Violence Unit of the Insular Institute of Social and Health Care (IASS), the Government Sub-delegation’s Women’s Violence Unit, and local police.
The meeting addressed the issue of gender violence in the municipality and reviewed the progress of VioGén Protocol 2, an integrated system designed to monitor cases of gender violence, facilitating collaboration among various security bodies and authorities involved in victim support and protection.
Granadilla de Abona’s Mayor, José Domingo Regalado, emphasised the importance of such meetings: “These gatherings are our best tool to ensure all administrations work in unison. Competitions are irrelevant; women need protection and a coordinated response, which is our sole priority. The council will always contribute whatever resources we can.”
He noted that improving safety is a key focus for the local government since day one and commended the Local Police, Civil Guard, and municipal social services for their ongoing efforts on the front line.
Candelaria Rodríguez, the councillor for security, highlighted the crucial role of the Local Police in the protocol. She stated, “Our officers are a fundamental part of this system, and we continue to enhance their training and resources to provide the best possible response. Constant coordination with the Civil Guard and other administrations is vital, and meetings like today allow us to identify what works and where we can improve.”
Rodríguez reiterated that enhancing security in Granadilla de Abona is a continuous commitment of the local government, working closely with the Local Police, their principal ally in day-to-day operations.
Both officials expressed gratitude to the Government Sub-delegation for convening the meeting and reiterated the council’s readiness to actively participate in initiatives aimed at protecting victims and preventing further cases.
