The Canary Islands will experience a mix of clouds, light showers, and warm temperatures this Monday, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicting highs of up to 30°C in parts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Cloud cover is expected to be heavier in the north, especially in the morning, where light rain is possible in northern and mid-altitude areas. In contrast, southern and coastal regions are likely to enjoy clearer skies.
Tenerife will see overcast conditions in the north, with light rain expected in the mid-altitude areas during the morning. Other parts of the island will be mainly clear, although some cloud may develop in the southeast early in the day.
Temperatures will remain stable, with minimums potentially rising slightly. The warmest areas will be in southern Tenerife, where temperatures may reach 30°C near the coast, as well as in the southeast of the island’s metropolitan area.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the north or northeast. In higher areas, around Tenerife’s central peaks, winds will initially be light and westerly but are expected to become moderate to strong as the day unfolds.
In Gran Canaria, a similar weather pattern is expected. Northern regions will be cloudy with the possibility of light rain, mainly in the mid-altitude zones during the morning, while the rest of the island should be mostly clear or lightly cloudy.
Temperatures could rise slightly, reaching around 30°C in mid-altitude areas and the lower-lying parts of the south and west of the island. Winds will start off as light to moderate from the north before increasing and shifting towards the northeast.
In the mountainous interior of Gran Canaria, winds are expected to remain generally light and westerly.
Overall, Monday will bring contrasting conditions across the archipelago: northern and higher areas can expect more clouds and light summer showers, while southern regions will likely be sunnier and warmer. Aemet has recorded mild temperatures above 20°C at several coastal stations early on Monday, 24 August.
