Fuerteventura to Host 38th World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship
Fuerteventura is set to become a global tourist and cultural hotspot with the 38th World Windsurf and Wingfoil Championship and La Carpa taking place from 16 July to 1 August at La Barca beach in Sotavento, Jandía.
The announcement was made by Pájara’s Mayor, Alejandro Jorge, alongside several local officials, including the Councillor for Tourism, Maria Clementina Da Silva, and the Councillor for Sports, José Benito Alonso. The event will bring elite athletes from around the world to the area.
Mayor Jorge highlighted the competition’s potential to boost the local economy, benefitting hotels, restaurants, and other tourist services. “This event will act as an economic engine for our community,” he explained.
Da Silva added that the championship is expected to attract thousands of visitors for a day filled with sports and leisure activities, emphasising Pájara’s stunning beaches and scenery as ideal for such events.
Insular Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa remarked that this edition reinforces the island’s position as a leader in hosting these types of competitions.
Councillor Alonso invited all windsurfing and wingfoiling fans, as well as attendees of La Carpa, to enjoy the 21 days of sporting and recreational activities, thanking all those who contributed to the event’s organisation.
Cultural Hub: La Carpa
During the championship, La Carpa will serve as a cultural centre with a capacity of 4,500. It will feature performances from notable artists such as Ñengo Flow and Omega, along with events like Bresh and Noche Blanca.
Both the championship and La Carpa are anticipated to significantly enhance the local economy, supporting hotels and restaurants.
The event organisers have also established a safety point to ensure a secure and incident-free experience for all.
