According to a statement from the Las Palmas Command on Tuesday, the investigation was prompted by a report from the company’s representative, who was alerted by an employee about the presence of unauthorised vehicles in the fuel storage area between May and August this year.

Security camera footage confirmed the repeated access of various private vehicles to the port area, allowing authorities to track their movements. To obtain fuel, individuals were required to enter a personal numeric code at the pump.

When the company became aware of the unauthorised vehicles, it increased security measures and changed the access codes to limit usage. Despite these steps, irregular refuelling continued, with codes assigned to its own employees being misused.

The Civil Guard estimates that the amount stolen is worth €4,425.72. Following an investigation that included data comparison of the vehicles, surveillance footage, and access codes, police formally identified four individuals as suspects in a continuing offence of theft.

The case has been forwarded to the Instruction Section of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Court for further legal proceedings.
