Tenerife is mourning the tragic loss of Jesús de Miguel, a player for CD Tenerife, who died following an incident during a match at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López yesterday.
Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, expressed her condolences to Jesús’s family and the club, highlighting the shock felt across the island. “We are deeply saddened and shocked. Jesús was just 30 years old, with a family, a wife, and a young daughter. His life has been cut short in a terrible way on the football pitch. There are no words to express the pain we feel,” she said.
Vice President Lope Afonso described the day as one of immense sorrow for both Tenerife’s sporting community and the broader society. “It’s hard to accept losing Jesús, who had so much ahead of him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, especially his wife and little girl, as well as his teammates and the entire CD Tenerife family,” he added.
Dávila reflected on the horror experienced at the stadium, saying, “Yesterday we left in shock from what had happened, and today we wake up to this heartbreaking news. All we can do is support his family and the club during this difficult time.”
Afonso emphasised the importance of human connections over sporting passion, stating, “What happened leaves us deeply shaken. In these tough moments, the Cabildo stands with the family, the club, and all CD Tenerife fans. We offer our support and embrace them in their time of sorrow.”
Dávila concluded: “Football should always be a space for unity, hope, and community. Today, all of Tenerife grieves for a young man who will be remembered fondly by the CD Tenerife family.”
The Cabildo extends its sympathies to Jesús’s friends, teammates, and the club’s supporters, who are united in their immense sadness.
