Coalición Canaria (CC) San Bartolomé has denounced the behaviour of Mayor Isidro Pérez regarding the ‘Ponte en Marcha’ programme, following the council’s absence from a coordination meeting organised by the Cabildo of Lanzarote. This meeting was intended to outline the programme and facilitate participation for seniors across the island.
David Rocío, the party’s spokesperson, described it as “regrettable” that the mayor is refusing to handle the registration for older residents in the latest edition of ‘Ponte en Marcha’, which is run by Senderismo Lanzarote. Rocío accused Pérez of trying to hinder the programme and blame the Cabildo instead.
He noted that the programme is fully organised and funded by the Cabildo, with municipal involvement limited to providing participant information and managing registrations. He pointed out that San Bartolomé did not attend the required coordination meeting.
Rocío expressed disappointment that although the council was present at the programme’s launch, the mayor has taken it upon himself to undermine its organisation for political gain, despite its popularity among seniors from both San Bartolomé and La Graciosa.
He added that due to Pérez’s lack of cooperation, the Cabildo has had to step in to manage registrations for San Bartolomé residents, ensuring they can participate in this initiative that helps keep older people active and engaged.
CC San Bartolomé praised the Cabildo and La Graciosa, under the leadership of Oswaldo Betancort, for taking the necessary steps to ensure local residents are not negatively affected by Pérez’s conduct, which has been described as typically sectarian.
