The 37th Campesino Festival in Arrecife attracted a massive crowd on Saturday night, with performances by Los Campesinos, Los Cantadores, and singer Tamara, marking another successful event.
The highlight was the show titled ‘The Daily Poem of Titerroygatra’, which beautifully illustrated the lives of those who shaped Lanzarote’s emotional and poetic landscape, accompanied by traditional dances and music that evoked the island’s history.
After a hot day, the evening weather was perfect, and an hour before the show began, José Ramírez Cerdá Park was already filled with loyal fans of Los Campesinos, who return year after year to support the group.
The evening started with an audiovisual showcasing images from the Digital Archive of Lanzarote, along with an introduction by Benito Cabrera, a close collaborator of the group. This set the stage for the first part of the performance, which featured iconic songs from the folklore group alongside more modern pieces.
The audience enjoyed well-known songs such as ‘Saranda del viento’, ‘Isa en Fa’, and ‘Folías del nueve’, as well as tributes to historical figures like Josefina Pla and César Manrique.
As Los Campesinos wrapped up their set to loud applause, they handed over the spotlight to Los Cantadores, celebrating their 18th anniversary with a repertoire that included beloved songs like ‘Si tú me dices ven’ and ‘Guantanamera’.
Tamara, known as the queen of bolero, also captivated the audience with her renditions of classics such as ‘Herida de amor’ and ‘El gato que está triste y azul’.
Miguel Ángel Corujo, president of Los Campesinos, expressed his delight at the festival’s success, highlighting the future of traditional music on the island. He thanked the local government and cultural organisations for their ongoing support.
