The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has received three proposals for the development of the new Parque Santa Catalina de La Gallega. This project is one of the key initiatives under the Suroeste Avanza programme, aimed at creating new public spaces for leisure, play, and family interaction. The deadline for submissions was 3 August, with bids from Asch Infraestructuras y Servicios, S.A.; a joint venture between Conacon, S.A.U., and Construcciones Sando, S.A.U.; and Probisa Vías y Obras, S.L.U.
Following the submission period, the evaluation committee will assess the offers based on the established criteria before awarding the contract. The Council expects work to commence in the final quarter of 2026 once the administrative processes are complete.
The project covers over 10,000 square metres of Parque Santa Catalina, focusing on universal accessibility, inclusion, and sustainability. The Council expanded the original proposal, which was initially more limited, into a comprehensive plan for the park.
Originating from a plan for an inclusive children’s area as part of the Edusi strategy, a new agreement between the Council and the Cabildo de Tenerife in June 2024 added the project to the Suroeste Avanza programme, enhancing its scope beyond just a playground to an overall improvement of the area.
The project is funded by a specific grant of €1,246,938.06 from the Cabildo de Tenerife for developing the inclusive play area, which the Council has integrated into its 2026 budget.
The initiative also addresses long-standing community demands. Residents highlighted the need for enhancements to Parque Santa Catalina in the 2023 Participatory Budget meetings, including upgrades to play areas, seating, signage, sports facilities, and services.
Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasised the importance of urban growth not just in housing but also in quality public spaces and services. He expressed a desire for this park to serve as a benchmark for both La Gallega and the wider city of Santa Cruz and Tenerife.
Javier Rivero, the councilman for Works and Infrastructure, noted that the project aims to improve accessibility, paving, water management, lighting, play areas, and landscaping. He stressed that this intervention would create a safe and functional space suitable for all ages and abilities, setting a new standard for La Gallega.
