The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has put out to tender a project for the creation of the Arid Zones Interpretation Centre at the Mirador de Morro Velosa. This initiative aims to enhance the site with new resources to help residents and visitors appreciate the island’s landscape, nature, and heritage.
The project includes the comprehensive design and development of the museological and museographic aspects, content production, fabrication and supply of exhibition elements, their installation and operation, as well as the design and equipment of a café area. The base budget for the tender is set at €345,382.54.

Lola García, president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, stated, “This project moves us forward in our commitment to enhance and expand the cultural spaces of the island, taking advantage of the prime location of Morro Velosa to bring residents and visitors closer to our territory and its natural values.”
Cultural councillor Rayco León explained that the initiative is part of the Cabildo’s action plan for the revitalisation and renewal of the island’s museum network. This plan aims to modernise existing museum spaces, create new facilities, and fully utilise the Mirador de Morro Velosa as a hub for environmental education and the promotion of the island’s landscape.
The future centre is envisioned as an innovative interpretation space, aiming to move away from traditional exhibition styles and to offer an engaging, educational, and immersive experience for visitors.
Exhibits will cover aspects such as Fuerteventura’s geological formation and arid landscape, biodiversity, and the natural processes shaping the territory, using a variety of exhibition, audiovisual, and interactive resources. The project also includes an experiential immersion space designed to present these topics in a sensory and participatory manner.
