Temperatures in the Canary Islands are set to rise again on Monday, 21 September, particularly in Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, where highs could reach up to 34°C. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) indicates that the hottest temperatures will likely occur in the southern interior of Fuerteventura.
Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are also expected to experience warmer weather, with maximums around 32°C on Monday. Parts of Tenerife may hit 30°C, especially inland. Additionally, a high-altitude calima, or dust haze, is forecasted over the eastern islands, leading to reduced visibility during the day.
On Fuerteventura, the hottest conditions are predicted in the southern inland areas, where temperatures may exceed 32°C. Winds will start off light to moderate from the north-east but are expected to strengthen later. The Jandía peninsula will see particularly strong gusts.
Gran Canaria will experience a moderate increase in temperatures, with highs of up to 32°C on the southern and western slopes. The northern and eastern areas will see cloudier conditions during certain times of the day, while the rest of the island remains warmer and clearer.
Lanzarote will see warmer temperatures on Monday, particularly inland, where highs are forecasted between 30°C and 32°C. Winds will be light in the morning, becoming moderate in the afternoon.
In Tenerife, temperatures in mid-altitude areas may approach 30°C. Forecasts suggest that Santa Cruz de Tenerife will see temperatures ranging from 22°C to 31°C, along with a slight chance of high-altitude haze later in the day.
La Gomera may reach up to 30°C, especially in its mid-altitude regions. El Hierro will also experience a temperature increase inland, while coastal areas will remain stable.
Contrastingly, La Palma is expected to be the only island with the possibility of rain—Aemet predicts light, occasional rainfall in the early hours. Despite this, temperatures will also rise on La Palma, particularly in mid and high-altitude areas.
Overall, Monday promises to be another warm day across the archipelago, especially in Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and parts of Tenerife, accompanied by high-altitude calima.
