San Bartolomé to Invest €10 Million in New Industrial Laundry Facility
The San Bartolomé Council has awarded a contract to ILUNION Lavanderías de Canarias S.A.U. for five municipal plots in Playa Honda’s industrial zone. The €10 million project will create 100 jobs, with 75% earmarked for individuals with disabilities.
This decision follows a public bidding process aimed at selling these five plots, which total approximately 5,000 square metres in a strategic area of Playa Honda’s industrial sector.
Mayor Isidro Pérez described this initiative as a significant commitment to a model of economic development that fosters job creation and social inclusion. He noted that the project not only represents a critical private investment but also offers real employment opportunities for those facing barriers in the job market.
Pérez added that establishing this facility in Playa Honda will strengthen the local economy and affirm San Bartolomé’s role as a key economic driver for the island.
Urban Planning Councillor Marlene Romero highlighted the council’s efforts to make industrial land available for projects that deliver social and economic benefits. She stated that the allocation of these plots aims to attract productive investments, stimulate economic activity, and generate stable, quality jobs.
The planned laundry facility will have the capacity to process up to 30,000 kilos daily, primarily serving the hotel, healthcare, and industrial sectors in Lanzarote. The project allocates €4 million for construction, €3.5 million for facilities, and €2.5 million for specialised machinery.
ILUNION’s bid scored the maximum points in the tender process, meeting all evaluation criteria, including investment levels, job creation, the percentage of disabled hires, and operational timelines.
This contract marks a significant step in the San Bartolomé Council’s strategy to promote industrial projects that diversify the local economy and create new job opportunities for the residents of both the municipality and the wider island.
