The Spanish Ministry of Transport has announced a 7% increase in reference fares for public service flights between the Canary Islands. This change is effective immediately following publication in the Official State Bulletin.
The updated fares aim to adapt airline pricing to current market conditions while ensuring essential inter-island routes remain operational. Key routes affected include flights from Gran Canaria to Tenerife North and South, Fuerteventura, El Hierro, and Lanzarote, among others.
The ministry states this adjustment provides airlines with the flexibility to offer both higher and lower ticket prices, ultimately allowing for cheaper options backed by elevated rates, all within the regulations set by the public service obligations.
However, three routes—Gran Canaria to La Palma, La Gomera, and Tenerife North to La Gomera—will maintain their current fares. The ministry emphasised that, due to the rising costs impacting air transport, these fare adjustments were necessary.
To ease the financial burden on residents, the ministry also highlighted that a 75% discount on airfares for Canary Islanders will continue to apply, softening the impact of the changes.
