The Equality and Social Services Department of Los Llanos de Aridane is hosting a video forum titled “Ellas cuentan, esta pasión comedida.” This event will feature a screening of the documentary of the same name by Soraya Domínguez and Adrián Sosa from the Almagrote Sociocultural Association. The film captures the intimate experiences, emotions, and sexuality of five women aged between 65 and 83 from Gran Canaria, followed by a discussion.
Councillor Idaira Pérez emphasised the sociocultural and community focus of the initiative, which aims to highlight the oral history and life experiences of older women in rural settings. “We want to present a cultural proposal that merges memory, social participation, and gender perspective, recognising the value of older individuals’ experiences and creating a safe space for their voices to be heard,” she stated.
Scheduled for 13 October at 5:30 PM at the Benahoarita Archaeological Museum, the event will include the screening of this audiovisual work, which arose from community workshops called Diversex that addressed issues of sexuality and affection. The primary goal is to shed light on knowledge, experiences, and emotions that have remained hidden for decades, illustrating how these women navigated their feelings and relationships in a society shaped by unspoken norms, prejudices, and silences.
The event is designed as a meeting place for reflection and intergenerational dialogue, using the film as a tool to encourage participation and recognition of older people’s experiences. Following the screening, there will be a discussion to share insights and reflect on societal changes regarding emotional relationships, sexuality, gender roles, and personal freedom.
