The LANZAFES association, which represents street vendors and food traders, has expressed concern over criticisms from certain stakeholders in El Reducto regarding the new leisure terrace and food truck installation at the Arrecife Theme Park.
LANZAFES supports revitalising public spaces in Arrecife, seeing it as a positive step for a city looking to become more vibrant and attractive. However, the association disagrees with some local entrepreneurs who believe they should have exclusive control over new public initiatives merely because they operate in the area.
“Arrecife cannot halt its development because some sectors demand exclusivity,” a representative stated. They acknowledged the need for respect towards existing businesses but insisted that the administration must also plan for the benefit of the entire community.
The new food and leisure offerings at the Theme Park are situated far from nearby restaurants, and LANZAFES rejects the notion that this could threaten local businesses. They pointed out that El Reducto has received substantial investments and has hosted numerous successful events that have drawn crowds.
During recent San Ginés festivities, multiple locations across Arrecife were used for events, highlighting that leisure activities should not be concentrated solely in one area.
LANZAFES is calling for full transparency regarding the food truck initiative, requesting clear information about where the proposal was published, who could participate, and what criteria were used for selection. They emphasise the need for equal opportunities for all operators, regardless of their business type.
The association reminds stakeholders that street vendors and related professionals are integral to Arrecife’s economy, having invested time and resources into local events. LANZAFES firmly believes that the same regulations should apply to all operators, ensuring a level playing field.
Finally, LANZAFES encourages the council to continue enhancing the Theme Park and creating new opportunities throughout the city. They are committed to being part of Arrecife’s revitalisation efforts, insisting that the goal is to create possibilities for everyone involved in the local economy.
