Historic Day for Canary Sport at Caleta de Fuste Beach
Caleta de Fuste’s Castillo Beach hosted a historic event for Canary sports with the IV OCR Danger Extreme, organised by CD Más Eventos. This competition marked the first-ever Championship of the Canary Islands OCR (Obstacle Course Race), crowning the region’s champions and attracting around 400 athletes.
The festive atmosphere was palpable, as hundreds cheered on the competitors throughout the course. This year’s circuit featured an array of challenges, combining strength, balance, suspension, and endurance, highlighted by a water segment in the sea. Participants tested their skills as they navigated through various obstacles.
Throughout the race, athletes tackled walls, suspension structures, weights, balance beams, and a mixture of natural and artificial challenges, making it both a physical and mental test while remaining entertaining and community-driven.
In the Elite category, the first champions were Onán Medina from Ultimate OCR in the men’s division, and Andrea Martín, also from Ultimate OCR, in the women’s. They etched their names into the history of Canary sport as the inaugural winners.
In the Pre-Elite category, Efraín de la Puente from CD Functional-Tea Fuerteventura claimed the men’s title, while Isabella Vidal from Ifariitas Team took home the women’s title.
In the Popular Individual category, the winners were Iván Domínguez García and Paloma Rodríguez Mateo, who both performed impressively. The team competition saw Los Guanches crowned champions in the men’s section, Equipo Pasada in the women’s, and Vulkimate in the mixed category. For the Popular Team event, La culpa es de nuestros maridos won the women’s title while Runners Pueblo Guanche triumphed in the mixed section.
OCR Growth in The Canaries
The IV OCR Danger Extreme has established itself as a key event in the OCR calendar in the Canaries, especially as it hosted the first Championship of the Canary Islands OCR. This milestone significantly boosts the development of the sport in the region, acknowledging the efforts of organisers, clubs, and athletes over recent years.
Romina González, director of CD Más Eventos, expressed her joy over the event’s success and the enthusiastic participation. “It’s been an unforgettable day. After much hard work, we’ve made the first Championship of the Canary Islands OCR a reality. Seeing so many athletes enjoying this historic experience is the best reward. I want to thank all volunteers, collaborators, institutions, and especially the athletes for being part of this unique moment for Canarian OCR,” she stated.
Institutional Support
Also noted was the backing from the Antigua Town Council through the Sports Council led by Iván Alejandro García Brito, as well as the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands Government. Their contributions were vital for the success of both the IV OCR Danger Extreme and the inaugural Championship, helping solidify this event as a sporting reference in Fuerteventura and beyond.
The organisation is optimistic about the event’s outcome, recognising a high level of competition and excellent public response, establishing the OCR Danger Extreme as an essential date in the Canary sporting calendar and laying the groundwork for future Championships.
