Isabel Pantoja, the celebrated queen of copla, delivered a stunning performance alongside the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra at the Isla Bonita Love Festival in Tazacorte. Conducted by Carlos Checa, around fifty musicians and a choir joined Pantoja to create what organisers labelled a “night for the history books,” marking the only Spanish stop on her 50th anniversary tour.
The concert, performed without any pre-recorded backing, saw Pantoja’s powerful voice supported brilliantly by the orchestra. Organisers noted, “With a full house, everything resonated live, where Pantoja’s voice found its home in the orchestra’s power.”
Navigating the orchestral arrangement with remarkable skill, Pantoja showcased a repertoire reflecting her five-decade career. Her commanding vocals and stage presence continued to enchant audiences of all ages.
She also chose to revive songs such as “A pesar del tropezón” and “Pero vas a extrañarme,” which had not featured in her recent performances, in addition to a special nod to the archipelago with “Canarias, Canarias.”
The event also celebrated milestones; while Pantoja marked over fifty years in music, the Isla Bonita Love Festival began its own ten-year anniversary celebrations.
The festival will continue with events led by Pantoja and a major musical day on 19 September featuring Nathy Peluso and Laura Pausini at the Puerto de Tazacorte.
