Seven Arrested in Gran Canaria After Kidnapping for Cryptocurrency
Seven individuals have been arrested in Gran Canaria as part of a police operation linked to the kidnapping of a man in March 2025. Dubbed ‘Operation Kripto’, the investigation revealed the group posed as police officers, using threats and violence to coerce the victim into transferring significant amounts of cryptocurrency.
The crime occurred on March 17, 2025, between 9 and 9.30 pm, when the suspects intercepted the victim in the private parking area of his home in Las Palmas. After forcibly restraining him, they placed him in a van and took him to an industrial site, where he was held captive for several hours as they demanded the cryptocurrency transfer, according to the National Police.
The kidnappers released the victim after threatening him and warning of dire consequences if he informed the authorities.
Following a thorough investigation, police were able to identify and apprehend the suspects, resulting in their arrests. Once the inquiries were complete, the detainees were presented to the relevant judicial authority, which ordered that two of them be remanded in custody.
