Fuerteventura Windsurfing Championships: Offringa and Neubauer Take Top Titles
The 38th Fuerteventura Windsurfing World Championship concluded its fifth day on 21 July with the Freestyle awards ceremony, following four days of intense competition that determined both male and female champions.
Sarah-Quita Offringa (ARU) was crowned the women’s Freestyle champion, winning her 29th world title. This event was the only one on the global calendar for this category, making her victory pivotal for the championship.
In the men’s category, Lennart Neubauer (GRE) secured first place after defeating Yentel Caers (BEL) in the double elimination final. Balz Müller (SUI) took third place, marking his first podium finish in the World Tour.
Awards Ceremony Highlights
The ceremony kicked off at around 12:30 at the main event area, known as La Carpa, which has hosted various activities throughout the competition. Attendees included winners and representatives from the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) and organisers René Egli by Meliá. Luis González, Fuerteventura’s sports councillor, was present, along with Pájara’s mayor Alejandro Jorge and other local officials.
The Datana academy provided a dance performance during the ceremony, which also featured the national anthems of the winning competitors.
Offringa’s Remarkable Comeback
Sarah-Quita Offringa faced a tough competition, needing to recover after Maaike Huvermann (NED) won the single elimination round. Offringa fought back, defeating Huvermann twice: first in the final, which led to a Super Final, and then in the decisive heat. This victory secured her world championship title, with Huvermann finishing in second place and Lisa Kloster (GER) rounding out the podium.

Neubauer Claims Victory
Lennart Neubauer defended his top position in the double elimination round to claim victory in Fuerteventura. Yentel Caers finished in second place, having defeated Balz Müller to reach the final. Müller took third place, with Jacopo Testa (ITA), Takumi Moriya (JPN), and Sam Esteve (FRA) following behind.

Slalom X Kicks Off
The Windsurfing programme continues on 22 July with the start of the Slalom X, set to run until 26 July, determining the men’s and women’s world titles. However, Sarah-Quita Offringa will not participate in this segment. After a day of rest and awards, speed specialists will take to the waters at Sotavento for five days of competition.
