A fire in Cazadores, Telde, declared on Monday, has prompted officials to expand evacuation measures as flames spread. Initially, three homes and one resident were evacuated, but the local council has now ordered the precautionary evacuation of residents in Cuevas Blancas.
Emergency services are currently evacuating animals and elderly residents from the affected area while working to extinguish the fire, which has impacted around three hectares of land.
Five helicopters are in operation, with three from the Gran Canaria council and the Canary Islands government, joined by two from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, dispatched from Tenerife South.
Telde’s mayor, Juan Antonio Peña, stated that the first evacuations were a response to the fire’s proximity, although he reassured residents that “there is no danger to the population at this moment.”
Around 40 ground personnel are involved in firefighting efforts, and the mayor encouraged residents to remain calm, highlighting the presence of professional safety and emergency teams.
Authorities are urging maximum caution for residents in Cazadores, El Moreno, and La Solana, recommending they keep doors and windows closed. In case of any emergencies or evacuation orders, they should contact emergency services immediately at 112.
