A fire broke out in a house on Guanarame street in the Maneje district of Arrecife on Saturday night, prompting a response from Lanzarote’s Security and Emergency Consortium.
The alarm was raised around 10:00 PM on 29th August after flames were spotted inside the property. According to the Consortium, the fire started in the kitchen’s electrical hob. The tenants quickly realised the danger, closed the kitchen, and evacuated the house to ensure their safety.
Thanks to the swift action of neighbours, who noticed the fire, it was initially contained. One neighbour alerted others to the blaze while another provided a fire extinguisher that helped reduce its intensity before emergency services arrived.
The flames chiefly damaged the kitchen extractor, furniture, and part of the ceiling, while smoke spread throughout the kitchen and hallway. Firefighters used both spray and jet water to extinguish the flames completely. They then cleared damaged furniture and removed deteriorated plasterboard that posed a risk of falling.
Once the situation was under control, firefighters ventilated the home and assisted the residents in gathering some belongings, including essential medication for one of the children. Ultimately, the affected family decided to spend the night with relatives.
