This financial proposal has already been approved by the General Intervention, which issued a favourable report on 22 October. The next step is for the Island Government Council to approve it.

Blanca Pérez, the island councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety, and Emergencies, stated that “Arico plays a crucial role in the island’s waste management system, and the planned financial compensations are part of the obligations linked to this territorial planning.”

Pérez added that “waste management is an island-wide responsibility that requires collaboration between administrations. Therefore, it is important to maintain the established compensation mechanisms and proceed with the administrative processes accordingly.”

Alejandro Molowny, the island director for Waste, explained that “this contribution corresponds to the year 2025, totalling exactly €901,693.78. The file already has the favourable Intervention report, which is one of the necessary steps for the Government Council to make a decision on its approval.”

Molowny emphasised that “this compensation is one of the economic instruments tied to the island’s waste planning and regulates contributions to the Arico Council as part of its development.”

The compensation is linked to the PTEOR, which outlines the territorial planning of infrastructure for waste management in Tenerife.

The file includes a transfer of €901,693.78 to the Council of Arico, funded from the budget set aside for grants to councils for waste collection and management.

The General Intervention of the Cabildo has issued a favourable full audit report in accordance with regulations governing internal control of local public sector entities.

Following the completion of the necessary administrative steps, the file will be submitted for approval to the Island Government Council, which is responsible for making the final decision.
