Access to the Contradique Sur at Arrecife Port will undergo significant renovations to enhance vehicle circulation and improve entry and exit manoeuvres. The project, initiated by the Port Authority of Las Palmas, will upgrade the road linking Avenida Olof Palme with the Contradique, adjacent to Marina Lanzarote, and will involve various infrastructure updates.
The need for renovations stems from issues identified since the Contradique opened. The current layout complicates vehicle entry and exit from the port area, prompting these improvements.
The planned works will involve demolishing, moving earth, and repaving the entire road. The aim is to create a refreshed circulation surface and better accommodate the types of vehicles frequenting this part of the port.
More than just resurfacing, the project will also address rainwater drainage, utility provisions, and telecommunication installations. Additionally, the new access will feature improved lighting, signage, and marking to better organise traffic around the Contradique Sur.
Further enhancements include carpentry and landscaping elements linked to the access upgrade as per the project specifications.
The Contradique Sur, measuring approximately 322 metres, serves to protect the quay from southern storms and facilitates year-round docking for large cruise ships.
The contract for the works has been awarded to Transportes y Excavaciones SCCATMECA S.L. for €411,831.37, including taxes, with a completion timeline of eight months.
Once the works commence—pending contract formalisation—the road will feature new surfacing, lighting, drainage, signage, and associated services, addressing current circulation issues at the junction with Avenida Olof Palme.
