Fuerteventura’s Chamber of Commerce Appoints New Leadership
The Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria, Servicios y Navegación de Fuerteventura has convened to select its new governing body, re-electing Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal as president for the 2026-2030 term. This decision follows strong support from the local business community as Rodríguez Marichal embarks on his second term.
The session was chaired by Felipe Afonso El Jaber, the Vice-Counsellor for Industry, Trade, and Consumption in the Canary Islands government, which oversees the official chambers of commerce on the islands. This meeting established the governing bodies that will lead the chamber’s activities for the next four years.
The plenary comprises 24 members: 16 elected by local businesses, four representing prominent inter-sectoral business organisations, and four from voluntary contributions.
During this session, members of the Executive Committee were also appointed. This includes Rodríguez Marichal as president, Yasmina Newport Perdomo and Soledad Monzón Cabrera as vice-presidents, and Juan Tomás Figueroa Benítez as third vice-president. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Armas has taken up the role of treasurer, with José Tomás Armas González as a substitute treasurer and Ylenia Alonso Viera as a committee member.
Rodríguez Marichal’s re-election aims to continue existing projects and further develop a chamber that is more connected to local businesses, emphasising a proactive approach to their needs.
After his re-election, he expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and reinforced his commitment to fostering an economy that is robust, innovative, and diverse.
“I take on this mandate with the same enthusiasm as my first, backed by the experience gained through our collaborative efforts. We aim to build a chamber that is accessible, supportive to entrepreneurs, and responsive to where help is needed. We have important projects to complete and new challenges ahead, but we are supported by a dedicated and dynamic business community ready to drive Fuerteventura’s development,” said Rodríguez Marichal.
Upcoming initiatives include the launch of the 4.0 Business Incubator, currently underway, and the opening of a new Chamber Extension in Pájara, set for this July. Efforts to enhance Fuerteventura’s visibility and economic ties with West Africa will also be prioritised, notably through events like Africagua Canarias 2027 in Senegal.
As Fuerteventura seeks to diversify its economy and embrace opportunities in emerging sectors such as blue economy, renewable energies, and innovation, the Chamber is committed to staying connected to the local business landscape. The renewal of its governing bodies will strengthen its role as a vital interlocutor for the island’s businesses, enhancing responsiveness to their needs and fostering projects that support a more competitive and resilient Fuerteventura.
