A routine check has confirmed that the water supplied through the public network in Lanzarote meets quality standards. However, recent tests revealed the presence of vinyl chloride at the Mala Health Centre, specifically in its internal plumbing rather than in the wider water supply.
The issue was found during regular water sampling in the Haría municipality, with the problematic sample taken in late April. The analytical results that followed in early May indicated levels of vinyl chloride exceeding allowable limits. Upon receiving the findings, both the health centre and the Canary Health Service were promptly informed.
Authorities have since established that the water provided by Aguas de Lanzarote and La Graciosa continues to meet safety standards, and the vinyl chloride issue stems from the centre’s internal facilities, which are the responsibility of the property owners.
Efforts are underway by the Canary Health Service to replace and upgrade the affected plumbing. Aguas de Lanzarote is also urging homeowners and businesses to maintain their internal water systems, including tanks and pipes, to ensure continued water quality after it leaves the public supply.
This reminder aligns with the “More Tap, Less Plastic” initiative, which encourages proper maintenance of private installations. Aguas de Lanzarote will keep monitoring the public network and consumption points to identify any future concerns and implement necessary corrective measures.
