The local councils of Los Realejos have reached a rare consensus, with the PP and PSOE planning to jointly reject a proposed propane gas plant by Disa. The agreement, set to be approved in the upcoming council meeting, will see CC abstaining during the initial commission vote. The councils aim to have the project entirely revoked before the May 2027 elections.
According to local residents’ platform leader Carmen Luisa González, the initiative has strong backing, particularly as it aligns with their demands. The proposal explicitly states the council’s firm opposition to the installation of the Emergency Generation Plant, known as Tigaiga, which is planned for any site within Los Realejos, particularly the new suggested location in the La Gañanía Industrial Estate.
This opposition was initially expressed during a council session on 25 June 2025, when a different site at La Zamora was considered for the plant. While CC supported the local government’s stance at the time, they abstained in the most recent commission vote. The proposal reiterates a collective institutional rejection of the Tigaiga plant and any similar facilities in the municipality.
The agreement calls on the Canarian Government and relevant authorities to consider the council’s position and reject the plant’s installation within Los Realejos. It stresses that no authorisations should be granted for any such development in the area.
The finalized proposal will be communicated to the Canarian authorities, including the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Disa Generación, stating the council’s opposition. Local residents from affected areas will also be informed of the decision.
Furthermore, the motion commits the council to take necessary administrative or legal actions to protect local interests and uphold this resolution, which may include formal appeals and other appropriate measures.
