The Cabildo de Tenerife has decided to prioritise the conservation of palm trees during the rehabilitation of the TF-176 road in El Rincón.
Today, road technicians from the Cabildo and officials from La Orotava met to discuss the project’s details, which currently awaits initial approval and public consultation. The initiative aims to invest nearly €742,000 to improve the road’s surface and safety conditions.
After the meeting, both parties agreed to retain as many existing palm trees as possible in their current locations while considering technical alternatives before deciding on the potential transplant of any trees if necessary.
The project will address the road surface between kilometre markers 0+000 and 1+500 and involves a planned investment of €741,908. The estimated completion time is four months.
This rehabilitation is intended to correct existing issues with the road surface, improve service conditions, and enhance safety for drivers. It will reduce vibrations on vehicles, decrease tyre wear, and optimise fuel consumption.
Dámaso Arteaga, the Cabildo’s road commissioner, noted that this project reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the island’s roads, especially secondary routes that play a vital role in daily mobility for residents and visitors.
Arteaga highlighted that the TF-176 provides essential access to El Rincón and various tourist and recreational locations like El Bollullo, El Ancón, and Los Patos beaches, improving both road safety and user comfort.
Scheduled works include resurfacing through milling and asphalt replacement, as well as complete repairs in areas that require it. The project also includes the replacement of road markings, adjustment of affected elements, and complementary works such as reinstallation of monitoring stations and upgrading of affected utilities.
The TF-176 is a single-carriageway road with two lanes that connects to exit 32 of the TF-5 motorway, serving as the main access route to the El Rincón area. It also sees significant pedestrian traffic heading to the coastal locations.
