Lanzarote is seeing significant growth in its business sector, with a record 5,295 companies registered with Social Security as of July. This marks an increase of 170 businesses compared to July 2025 and a 3.3% rise year-on-year, continuing a positive trend over recent months.
Data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC), compiled by the Lanzarote Data Centre, shows a steady increase in businesses since the start of 2026. The number rose from 5,165 in January to 5,295 by July, adding 60 companies from June to July alone.
Of the 5,295 companies registered, 3,133 were corporate entities or associations, while 2,162 were sole traders. This indicates that nearly six in ten companies belong to the former category, reflecting a gradual increase in corporate businesses over the year.
Lanzarote’s business landscape is predominantly made up of small enterprises. Out of the total, 4,323 companies had between one and nine employees, while 820 employed between 10 and 49. Only 133 companies had between 50 and 249 employees, and just 19 had 250 or more.
July’s figures confirm it as the best month for business registrations in 2026 so far, following a slight dip in registrations during March and April. The monthly increases were evident, rising from 5,165 in January to 5,201 in February, and then steadily climbing to 5,295 in July.
The year-on-year growth has also become more pronounced, increasing from 1% in January to 2.5% in June, and reaching 3.3% in July. Overall, the data paint a picture of a thriving business environment in Lanzarote, with more companies and a clear dominance of corporate entities amid a backbone of small businesses.
