Las Palmas Secures New Contract for Public Road Maintenance
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has received nine bids for a new public road maintenance contract worth €42.9 million over the next four years. This initiative aims to enhance the upkeep of roads, pavements, walls, and other urban infrastructure across the city’s five districts.
The winning companies include Acciona Mantenimiento, Capross 2004 with Cyes Infraestructuras, and several others dedicated to infrastructure maintenance. This new contract represents a 143% increase in investment compared to the previous agreement, resulting in over €10.7 million allocated annually for preventive and corrective maintenance.
The service will cover more than 3.6 million square metres of roads and pavements, alongside around 125,000 square metres of municipal walls. The contract is divided into two lots: one for Centro, Vegueta, Cono Sur, and Tafira at €19.6 million; the other for Ciudad Alta, Isleta-Puerto-Guanarteme, and Tamaraceite-San Lorenzo-Tenoya at €23.3 million.
Key improvements include enhanced preventive maintenance through regular inspections to identify potential issues early, thus increasing safety and accessibility. The service will employ a minimum of 76 professionals, with 24-hour emergency response capabilities to address urgent incidents within an hour of being alerted.
The contract also commits to updating the vehicle fleet to improve work efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Additionally, it includes plans to enhance universal accessibility by eliminating architectural barriers and complying with current regulations on curb adjustments.
Technological tools will facilitate better management through a comprehensive digital tracking system, enabling real-time monitoring of maintenance activities. Lastly, the service will maintain an up-to-date inventory of municipal road conditions to improve future planning and resource allocation.
