Fuerteventura Enhances Security Measures to Boost Tourism
The Association of Tourist Entrepreneurs of Fuerteventura (ASOFUER) is praising recent efforts by the island’s local authorities and the Spanish government to bolster public safety resources. This initiative includes new hires for the National Police and Civil Guard, along with extra officers in training and operational reinforcements across various locations on the island.
Several municipalities, including La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, and Antigua, have expanded their local police forces, aided by the collaboration of the Canary Islands General Police in special operations aimed at tourist areas and high-attendance events.
ASOFUER highlights the importance of these developments in ensuring a safe environment for both visitors and residents. They emphasise that effective policing, preventive measures, and quick response capabilities are key to enhancing the appeal of Fuerteventura as a tourist destination.
Antonio Hormiga, president of ASOFUER, stated, “Security is vital for everyone living in Fuerteventura and those who choose to holiday here. These reinforcements mark significant progress in addressing our community’s real needs through cooperation between administrations and police forces.”
The association also commended the daily efforts of the Civil Guard, National Police, Canary Police, and local police, especially in tourist-heavy areas, where increased population and event activity require ongoing planning and coordination.
ASOFUER believes that visitors’ sense of security directly impacts their experience and the island’s external image. They advocate for continued growth in police staffing, ensuring stability, and providing officers with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively.
Looking ahead, ASOFUER is committed to maintaining close collaboration with local and national authorities, as well as relevant security bodies, to foster a safer and more sustainable tourism environment in Fuerteventura.
