New Leadership Takes Charge of Local Council in Las Palmas
The newly elected leadership of the local council in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has pledged to “continually transform the capital into a sustainable, diverse, supportive, and welcoming city.” Pedro Quevedo, 70, has been appointed as the new secretary general of the local chapter of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), which recently completed its internal elections.
Quevedo headed the only list submitted for the local council, which was confirmed by the electoral board. Earlier, his list won 67.3% of the votes in the local assembly election, defeating another candidate that received 32.7%.
Quevedo expressed confidence in his team, stating their commitment to addressing future challenges, including building a strong local progressive alternative ahead of the municipal elections in May 2027.
