Fuerteventura Avanza Rejects Alliance with Nueva Canarias for 2027 Elections
Fuerteventura Avanza has announced a new political unity agreement with Asambleas Municipales and Juntos por Pájara in preparation for the 2027 elections. The aim is to create a strong coalition that represents the island’s interests. However, the agreement specifies that any new political force wishing to join this electoral alliance must have the unanimous approval of the three existing members.
The party has firmly decided against including Nueva Canarias in the alliance. Following discussions among its leadership, Fuerteventura Avanza unanimously voted not to support Nueva Canarias’ inclusion after considering several key factors.
Firstly, the previous legislative collaboration with Nueva Canarias did not meet the anticipated political goals. Fuerteventura Avanza believes that the partnership was primarily driven by a desire for parliamentary representation, particularly when Nueva Canarias chose to run independently in Puerto del Rosario instead of backing a united candidacy led by Fuerteventura Avanza.
Secondly, Nueva Canarias has linked its potential involvement to leading the list for the Canary Islands Parliament in the upcoming elections.
Lastly, conditions set by Nueva Canarias regarding future government agreements have raised concerns for Fuerteventura Avanza. They view these stipulations as restrictions that could undermine the political autonomy and decision-making abilities of the future coalition, ultimately disregarding the electorate’s wishes.
