Javi Beirán Academy Kicks Off in Fuerteventura
The second edition of the Javi Beirán Academy has launched in Fuerteventura, supported by the Sports Department of the Fuerteventura Cabildo and the Tuineje Town Council. The event brings together prominent figures from national and international basketball. A formal meeting was held at the Playitas Resort today, attended by public officials, organisers, and renowned sports professionals.
Running from 3rd to 8th July, the academy utilises facilities at Playitas Resort, the Gran Tarajal Municipal Pavilion, and the IES Vigán Pavilion. Aimed at young people aged 13 to 18, the campus offers specialised training led by top-tier professionals.
Isidoro “Lolo” Calín, assistant coach at Real Madrid and a holder of three EuroLeague titles, leads this year’s technical direction. He is joined by esteemed coaches and former players, including Javier Beirán, a world champion with Spain, and Víctor Claver, who has extensive experience in the NBA, ACB, and the Spanish national team.
Lola García, President of the Fuerteventura Cabildo, expressed her pride in hosting such a significant sporting initiative, allowing local youth to learn from those embodying hard work and teamwork. She highlighted how the academy also showcases the island’s attractions, promoting Fuerteventura as a key destination.
Luis González, the Sports Councillor, noted that the academy represents a great opportunity for local basketball, bridging specialised training with community clubs and coaches, allowing children to learn from top professionals without leaving the island.
Javier Beirán expressed satisfaction with the project’s growth, confident that this edition enhances quality with a strong technical team and the inclusion of Víctor Claver. He aims for the academy to continue evolving in Fuerteventura while boosting the local basketball scene.
Víctor Claver shared his excitement about witnessing young participants enjoying and improving their skills in the academy, stating he is thrilled to be on the island and impressed by the excellent sports facilities.
The meeting was also attended by Tuineje Mayor David Herrera, the Fuerteventura Cabildo Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa, Tuineje Sports Councillor Dulce García, among other distinguished guests.
Elite Training Initiative
The Javi Beirán Academy is an initiative by Marcha Deportiva, dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-level training for young basketball players, blending technical preparation with core values like effort, respect, humility, and teamwork.
With the Playitas Resort and local pavilions, the academy creates a tailored training programme that meets high-performance basketball standards, attracting young athletes and top professionals each year.
