Despite this small percentage, the number of high earners has surged by 18.2% in the last year, up from 422 in the previous cycle. Nationally, taxpayers earning over €601,000 increased by nearly 28%, totalling 18,829—marking the highest figure since 2007.

Madrid dominates this elite group, with 8,278 such contributors, accounting for 44% of the national total. Catalonia follows with 4,040 high earners, while the Canary Islands lag far behind, overshadowed by regions like Andalusia (1,501) and Valencia (1,375).

While the wealthiest remain a small fraction, the majority of Canary Islands taxpayers fall within the middle to lower income brackets, with the largest group earning between €30,000 and €60,000 annually, constituting 23.5% of the population. This trend underscores the ongoing discussion surrounding the cost of living and wages on the islands.
