Overhaul of Morro Jable Health Centre Re-Tendered
The Canarian Health Service is re-tendering renovations for the Morro Jable Health Centre after the initial bidding failed. The project, now valued at over €225,000, will take four months to complete.
Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura highlighted that this renovation is part of ongoing commitments made by the Canarian government to improve health services for citizens in Fuerteventura.
“This project adds to our health map for Fuerteventura, which includes initiatives across all municipalities that we announced last December alongside the Autonomous Community’s budget approval,” said representatives from AM-CC.
Other health improvements include the introduction of a medical helicopter, the future Centre for Specialised Care in La Lajita, and the ongoing works at Corralejo II Health Centre.
The coalition noted that these enhancements address long-standing health service demands from Fuerteventura residents. They emphasized that the medical helicopter has significantly improved emergency response times across the island.
The Morro Jable Health Centre, part of the Basic Health Zone (ZBS) in the Jandía Peninsula, serves 17,470 patients. Renovation plans include updating the façade, improving evacuation signage, establishing an ambulance sleeping area, and installing a shelter in the parking area.
This initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery in response to the growing population in the ZBS. Following the failed tender in 2024, the Health Department has updated the project budget from €186,000 to €225,000.
