The island of El Hierro hosts this October a unique artistic proposition that unites tradition, music, and culture in an intimate and immersive format: La Luchada Cósmica, an event to be held from October 10th to 12th at the wrestling arena (terrero de lucha) in the municipality of La Frontera, with programming that will also extend to other symbolic spaces on the island.
Promoted under the umbrella of the Verbena Cósmica project, La Luchada Cósmica was born with the purpose of creating an aesthetic and sensory experience around music and traditional Canarian sport, reviving musical genres such as funky and classic disco-house, in dialogue with an environment charged with history and meaning.
The event proposes an intergenerational gathering, where the dance floor becomes a space for cultural connection. The wrestling arena of La Frontera, usually dedicated to the practice of Canarian Wrestling (Lucha Canaria), transforms for a few days into a stage where sounds from the past converge with the energy of the present.
Rather than large stages or massive productions, the focus is on a carefully curated format that respects the environment, designed for those who value music, identity, and heritage.
One of the fundamental pillars of the event will be precisely the promotion of Canarian Wrestling, not only through the space that represents it, but also through the programming of exhibitions and sports workshops that will take place in the arena itself. This inclusion reaffirms the project’s commitment to rescuing and raising awareness of local traditions, in an innovative format that contextualizes them without stripping them of their essence.
The festival will kick off on Friday, the 10th, with ‘Por la Costa’ (10:00 to 13:00), a guided hiking experience through the coastal landscapes of El Hierro. In the afternoon, from 18:00 to 20:00, it will be time for “Fermentando,” an exquisite tasting of El Hierro wines paired with local cheeses and accompanied by a DJ session from ‘Just Bea’. The day will conclude with the screening of a documentary about Canarian Wrestling at the Ramón Méndez wrestling arena, from 21:00 to 22:00, with free admission.
Saturday begins with the workshop “En la Brega” (10:00 to 11:30, free admission), an introductory activity to Canarian Wrestling that will also be held at the Ramón Méndez wrestling arena. Next, from 12:00 to 14:30, “Brunch con Puntales” will take place at the Juan Barbuzano Museum, a talk about El Hierro wrestling accompanied by brunch and a music session by DJ Deiro.
The main event on Saturday will be the highly anticipated Luchada Cósmica, which will occupy the Ramón Méndez Arena from 15:00 until 02:00 with access to two stages: the Arena Stage and the Vestuario Stage, featuring sessions by Just Beca, Mascareño, Candela, Vicky Morales, Higo Mordido, Tio Lulo, Esteban Pérez, and Deiro.
Sunday kicks off again with the workshop “En la Brega” (10:00 to 11:30, free admission) at the Ramón Méndez Arena. This will be followed, from 12:00 to 14:30, by “Brunch entre Campanas,” an experience at the Joapira Bell Tower, plus brunch and a DJ session with Esteban Pérez to close the festival with privileged views.
With La Luchada Cósmica, El Hierro positions itself as a space for cultural innovation, where the local is projected toward new languages and forms of expression. The island thus becomes the stage for a unique experience that seeks to move, connect, and celebrate.
