The council in Uga, led by Óscar Noda, is advancing multiple projects including sewage improvements and plans for a new community recreational facility. Alongside upgrades to a 300-space car park and the renovation of a local sports court, the council has now put out to tender a social club and four covered “bola canaria” courts, with an estimated budget of €758,000. Companies have until 14 August to submit bids.
The new facility will cover 850 square metres and will include a building, terrace, and the covered courts. Noda remarked, “When we announced the €22.9 million treasury reserve in July, we indicated that we would start various projects, and the Uga social club is one of them, alongside significant investments in Playa Blanca.”
Yaiza’s Public Works Councillor, Ángel Lago, stated that the club and courts were originally planned behind the traditional wrestling arena, but the decision was made to position them in front of the municipal building to better integrate with surrounding amenities, including a large inclusive park next to the school.
The social club will serve both social and recreational purposes, featuring a central patio that connects the two areas. It will offer a terrace, bar, restrooms, and a versatile dining room for community meetings and events. The design also includes a kitchen, storage, a pantry, gardens, and a covered terrace that extends the outdoor dining space. Current investments in Uga are approximately €1.8 million for sewage works, €1.3 million around the wrestling arena, and €952,000 for the sports court, with the social club and courts pending contract award.
