Arson Spree Strikes Santa Cruz de Tenerife
A string of arson attacks hit Santa Cruz de Tenerife last night, resulting in significant damage across the city. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 14 waste bins were set ablaze, six vehicles were damaged—three beyond repair—and four palm trees were affected on public streets.
Local police and the Tenerife Fire Consortium responded late in the day to combat the multiple fires. Due to the seriousness and scale of the incidents, the local forces have filed reports with the National Police, who are now leading the investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Major Incident Destroys Three Cars
The most severe incident occurred shortly before 11 PM on Calle Sansón y Barrios in the Somosierra neighbourhood. The fire started in a row of waste containers and quickly spread to nearby parked cars.
In this incident, eight waste bins were destroyed, and six vehicles were affected by the flames, with three suffering extensive damage. A palm tree in the area was also burned before firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.
Chain Reaction of Vandalism
Following the initial fire in Somosierra, the offenders continued their spree, vandalising other areas of the capital. Local agents and firefighting services were called repeatedly to Avenida Manuel Hermoso Rojas, Calle Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez, Calle Panamá, and Calle Celia Cruz.
In this phase of the vandalism, an additional six waste bins were destroyed and three more palm trees were burned. Local police are gathering evidence and witness statements to assist the National Police’s ongoing investigation.
