Training Session for Security Forces on Monitoring Technology at Maspalomas Dunes
The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has conducted a training session on the use of advanced sensor and video monitoring technology for security personnel operating in the Maspalomas Natural Reserve.
Around 30 officers from various agencies, including the Civil Guard, Canarian Police, Local Police, and environmental agents from the Cabildo, were briefed on the operation of a new command system that consolidates data from the sensors and cameras throughout the reserve.
According to a statement from the Cabildo, this technology aids officers by tracking visitor flows, analysing historical usage patterns, and improving surveillance planning and control measures.
The session also covered the ecological values of the dunes, detailing conservation and restoration efforts in this protected area.
Raúl García Brink, the Councillor for Environment, Energy and Climate at the Cabildo, emphasised the importance of security forces being familiar with the technology: “It’s essential for their actions to be more precise and efficient. The command system allows us to see in real-time what is happening in this area and identify regions under the most pressure.”
This initiative is part of Gran Canaria’s strategy to conserve protected natural spaces through technological innovation and coordinated efforts among all stakeholders.
